Portland Community College offers a wide variety of history courses covering different areas, eras, and topics. In addition to United States, Western Civilization, and Eastern Civilization survey courses, the PCC History department has specialty classes on Russia, the Holocaust, Women, Native Americans, Religion in the United States, and Oregon.

In August 1990, Bishop Ellis called for the First Pentecostal Convocation of (what was then known as) “The Pentecostal Churches of Christ” to meet at Cleveland, Ohio. Seven congregations answered the call and these planned for an annual gathering of saints in Cleveland for the month of August.

Pitt Community College was chartered by the State Board of Education in March 1961 and began operation as Pitt Industrial Education Center that year with Dr. Lloyd Spaulding serving as director. As program offerings developed, the school grew to become Pitt Technical Institute (PTI) in July 1964.

His growing desire was to minister in his home community where he, and his wife Sandy, were living and raising their family.

A History of PCC 1953 John Affolter starts a food-buying club in Seattle, Washington, in which 15 families participate. The combined buying power of member households reduces the cost of food. In 1957, the club moves with the Affolter family to Renton, Washington, where it’s known as the May Valley Food Club. 1961

Membership and sales at the Ravenna PCC grew steadily through the 1970s. In 1975 PCC Mercantile was opened across the street to sell tools and other non-food items. It was not enough, and in 1976 PCC moved to a substantially larger space about two blocks away, at 6504 20th NE. The opening of that store marked a pivot point in the co-op's history.
